Land Use Application

Once application and payment are received your application will be forwarded on for review, you will be contacted if there is anything further needed from you in order to process. If there is nothing further needed, you will be contacted once you are approved or denied.

PLEASE NOTE: The city has 60days to review and make a decision on land use applications, although the city strives to process all applications as soon as they are received.

To avoid delays, applicants should allow themselves as much time as possible between the time they submit their application and the time they wish to begin construction.

Close coordination with the city staff during the project design phase and submittals that are complete and accurate will help avoid delays.

No construction can begin until the permit is complete, and you have received approval. Following approval that permit will be good for 24 months so long as work begins on the project within 12 months of the permit approval.

The Zoning Administrator is able to extend the expiration by 6 months so long as there is good cause, and any further extension must be issued by the Planning Commission/Council.

City of Backus Variance Application

Must be submitted 30days before the city council meeting in order for a public hearing to be scheduled. If submitted less than 30days prior it will be pushed out to the next City Council meeting.

The full land use ordinance is available online or at City Hall.

Applications shall be accompanied by nine (9) prints of site plan drawing complete with, as a minimum, the information from the Variance Checklist included in this form.

Application fees need to be paid in order to process the application made payable to the City of Backus.

This fee does NOT cover the Land Use Permit, which must be filed separately, if necessary.

City Council, acting as Planning Commission, holds their monthly meeting on the first Monday of the month at 6:30 PM at the Backus City Hall unless that Monday falls on a Holiday in which case the meeting would be held on the following Monday.

Meetings are held as needed, so coordinate with the City Clerk for placement on the agenda.
