Utility Billing Rate Increases coming this Spring/Summer

The City of Backus will be mailing a letter to residents later this week regarding upcoming changes to utility billing rates following a recently completed utility rate study.

While the monthly base rates will remain the same, utility bills will no longer include 4,700 gallons of use before overage charges are incurred.  The new rates will include the base rate plus the following structure for actual usage-based charges:

• Water usage: $3.50 per 1,000 gallons

• Sewer usage: $3.43 per 1,000 gallons

These new rates will go into effect in May. However, residents will not see the increased pricing on their bills until June, when they receive the bill for May water usage.
